Everything in type begins with C.G. Jung, though he can be a bit difficult to read (or "unpack" as some
people say).
For beginners it is better to start with one of the Introduction to Type series, published by CPP in the
United States and distributed by
OPP in Europe. This can simply be Introduction to Type or one of the
specialized publications like
Introduction to Type in Teams or Introduction to Type in Organizations.
TRG uses the Introduction to Type series books in our basic seminars.
For the advanced student, reading Isabel Briggs Myers's Gifts Differing will be a rich source of deepening
understanding. Additionally, Naomi Quenk's works,
In the Grip and Was that Really Me? are exceptional
treatments of the influence of type for people under stress.
As a second step one might want to go into popular works such as True to Type (William Jeffries), People
Types and Tiger Stripes
(Gordon Lawrence), Life Types (Sandra Hirsh & Jean Kummerow) or Type Talk
(Otto Kroeger & Janet M. Thuesen). These works help the reader move deeper into the an understanding of
personality type and the effect of type on our relationships with others at work and home.
Foreign-language publications on Type are beginning to become available. CPP publishes versions of
Introduction of Type in many languages (for example Einführung in Typen in German). Beyond simple
translations of English works, other books are available, such as Richard Bents & Reiner Blank's two
works,
Typisch Mensch an accessible and simple book, and M.B.T.I. Eine dynamische
Persönlichkeits-typologie
a more exhaustive work. Naturally, C.G. Jung's works are available in their
native German and many other languages.
There are more good works out there than we have space to review, but we thought we would show you
some of our favorites.
